Supporting workplace wellbeing through quality assured, evidence based suicide first aid training courses

Overview

Suicide is a confronting subject and yet sadly, most of us have been touched by it in some way. It is a community issue, which requires a community response. Anyone can learn suicide prevention awareness knowledge and skills, and the more people who do the safer our communities will be.

As well as supporting suicide-safer workplaces, these courses also equip staff with the knowledge and skills to support themselves, their loved ones and their communities, outside work.

an experienced trainer

I have been awarded Approved Associate Tutor status with Suicide First Aid UK, which enables me to deliver their training courses.

In addition to my substantial experience of delivering training courses, my 25 year career working in, managing and leading mental health and wellbeing services for students in the university sector makes me a confident and credible suicide first aid trainer.

The Assured Associate Tutor Training programme that I completed to gain Approved Tutor status is a City and Guilds Assured Programme.

These courses do not teach people to be a mental health professional or provide ongoing support. Instead, they provide participants with suicide intervention knowledge and skills that can be applied in any professional or personal setting.

Suitable for anyone who seeks greater understanding and confidence to intervene with people who may be thinking of suicide, and who is interested in supporting suicide-safer workplaces and communities.

Courses are quality assured by City & Guilds, and are subject to ongoing quality monitoring by City & Guilds.

Suicide First Aid - Understanding Suicide Intervention

SFAUSI.jpg

A one-day face to face course, or delivered virtually over 2 days. This course teaches and practices the skills and knowledge needed to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and to competently intervene to help create suicide-safety as a first aid approach.

This course offers an optional City & Guilds qualification and is aimed at people wanting a more in-depth practice-based approach to learning. There is no requirement to have done the SFA Lite course before this course. Many organisations choose to offer this course to staff so that they can take up a ‘Suicide First Aider’ role in their organisation.

Suicide First Aid Lite

This 4-hour course teaches the knowledge and skills needed to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and to pass them safely on to a suicide first aider / emergency services / appropriate support. Face to face or virtual delivery.

Learning outcomes are knowledge based, with less emphasis on skills practice than the longer course. This course can be used as a stand-alone programme, or as the first part of a journey to learn suicide prevention skills.
